End the War/Peace March, March 10th, Washington DC

People from all over the country are organizing to converge on Washington, D.C., to demand the immediate and unconditional withdrawal of all U.S. and NATO forces from Afghanistan and Iraq.

On Saturday, March 20, 2010, there will be a massive National March & Rally in D.C. We will march together to say “No Colonial-type Wars and Occupations in Afghanistan, Iraq, Palestine!” We will march together to say “No War Against Iran!” We will march together to say “No War for Empire Anywhere!” Instead of war, we will demand funds so that every person can have a job, free and universal health care, decent schools, and affordable housing.

A day of action and outreach in Washington, D.C., will take place on Friday, March 19, preceding the Saturday march. There will be coinciding mass marches on March 20 in San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Cindy Sheehan has announced a new initiative set to begin in March 2010 called Peace of the Action, an integral part of which will be a camp that will be set up beginning March 13. This camp will be a staging area for people coming to DC to take part in anti-war activities.

March 20 is the seventh anniversary of the criminal war of aggression launched by Bush and Cheney against Iraq. One million or more Iraqis have died. Tens of thousands of U.S. troops have lost their lives or been maimed, and continue to suffer a whole host of enduring problems from this terrible war.

This is the time for united action. The slogans on banners may differ, but all those who carry them should be marching shoulder to shoulder.

Northwest LGBTQ Conference, April 24-25, Seattle

    Northwest LGBTQ Conference
    April 24-25, 2010 (tentative)
    Seattle University (tentative)

Interested in getting involved in the struggle for full Federal equality for ALL?

Interested in meeting lgbtq folks and supporters from the regional to share experiences, strategies, and victories?

Interested in organizing a Northwest Regional conference to continue to build a grassroots movement for LGBT rights?

More than 200,000 activists marched on Washington, Oct. 11, 2009, to demand full equality for all LGBTQ people in all matters of civil law in all 50 states. Today, many of us who mobilized for the march are organizing to build Equality Across America (EAA), a national network of grassroots activists, starting with a series of regional educational and strategizing conferences.

The Seattle OUTProtest Coalition organized a solidarity rally and march on the same day as the National Equality March. SOP now has begun the work of building a regional grassroots network of activists organizing for full federal equality by initiating a regional conference that will take place in April in Seattle, WA. This conference will be targeted to the entire Northwest region of the United States, including Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Alaska, and western Montana. And we want to get lots of other regional organizations and interested folks involved!

    Our One Single Demand:

We are guaranteed equal protection under the 14th Amendment of the US Constitution. Free and equal people do not bargain for or prioritize our rights. Full equality necessarily includes all members of the LGBT community and encompasses, but is not limited to:

    · The right to work our jobs and go to school free of harassment and discrimination.

    · The right to safety in our daily lives, and protection from hate crimes.

    · The right to equitable healthcare, and the right to donate blood.

    · The right to equitable immigration policies.

    · The right to marry.

    · The right to serve in the military openly.

    · The right to live free from harassment, violence, and discrimination

The purpose of this conference is to reach out to people throughout the region who are interested in getting involved (or more involved) with the grass roots movement to realize full federal equality for all LGBTQ individuals. Our goal is for attendees to come away with:

    - a better of understanding of what full equality really means,
    - a better understanding of the history of the LGBTQ rights movement,

    - a better understanding of the history of the civil rights movements of the 1960’s and 70’s and what we can learn from those movements,

    - a better understanding of the strategies and tactics that can be used to gain full federal equality,

    - connections to other activists and grassroots organizations that are currently working toward full federal equality, and

    - a concrete list of next steps for both local and regional actions.

Let us know if you’re interested in endorsing the conference, hosting/leading one of the workshops, or helping to organize the event. We can’t wait to have you on board!

SeattleOUTProtest (SOP) is a grassroots democratic coalition of activist groups in Seattle working for LGBT equality on a federal level. The coalition includes students, labor, women’s rights activists, immigrants, youth, and socialists. SOP has organized against Fred Phelps, for the Seattle LGBT Equality Weekend, and for the approval of Ref-71. It is currently planning a community forum on the Employee Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) and a Northwest conference for Equality Across America. More info is available at http://seattleoutprotest.org.

Equality Across America (EAA) organized a march of nearly a quarter of a million activists October 11, 2009, on a shoestring budget, without corporate sponsorship and without the assistance of mainstream LGBT organizations. In November, EAA called for and organized vigils in several cities to remember Jorge Steven López, a victim of a hate crime in Puerto Rico, and to oppose the bigotry against LGBT people that leads to such barbaric crimes. EAA also called for and organized vigils and actions in honor of the Transgender Day of Remembrance.
