DOVER — A Senate civil unions bill that would recognize “solemnized” same-sex relationships with the same legal protections and requirements as marriage — was voted out of the state Senate Administrative Services Committee after a two-hour hearing Wednesday.
The bill — S.B. 30 — sponsored by Sen. David Sokola, D-Newark North, with more than two dozen co-sponsors, now goes to the Senate floor for debate.
Things Donald Trump does feel good about: birth certificates, putting his name on stuff. Things Donald Trump does not feel good about: new hairstyles, gay marriage. “I just don’t feel good about it,” says Trump to Bill O’Reilly. “I don’t feel right about it. And I take a lot of heat because I come from New York.”
Capt. Andrew Wilfahrt, who was killed in Afghanistan last month when an IED exploded, will be remembered by his family and loved ones for being a brave American. And a wonderful gay man. The video, via the Courage Campaign, features an interview with Andrew’s parents Lori and Jeff, who lament about Andrew’s forced re-closeting when he enlisted, though “people in his unit knew he was gay … and nobody cared,” says Lori. That’s what Andrew himself said when he talked to his mom: “Everyone knows, nobody cares.”
OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) – The Washington Legislature has approved a measure that recognizes out-of-state domestic partnerships.
On a 28-19 vote, the Senate cleared the last hurdle for the bill. It now heads to Gov. Chris Gregoire’s desk.
Under the measure, gay marriages performed elsewhere would be recognized as domestic partnerships here, as well as domestic partnerships performed in other states.
Well this is just a wonderful message from Pastor Ken Hutcherson — the man who performed Rush Limbaugh’s marriage and who warned the NFL against gay players who would only be able to think about showering with jocks — about the risks of seeing DOMA die.
Today Liberty Counsel spokesdouche Matt Barber claims to Porno Pete that he’s received death threats since his Monday announcement that gay kids kill themselves because they intuitively know they are immoral. And that doesn’t bother Barber, because he knows that gays are really just mad at God.
Sometime in early January, 70-year-old Murray Seidman of Lansdowne, Penn., was beaten to death. Days later, Seidman’s murderer – 28-year-old John Joe Thomas – returned to Seidman’s apartment to make it appear as though he had just discovered Seidman’s body.
Only recently was Thomas charged with murder, having told police that he stoned Seidman to death after the 70-year-old man allegedly made sexual advances toward him. Thomas justified the murder based on what he read [incorrectly] in the Bible. According to court documents, Thomas said that he read in the Hebrew Scriptures that gay people should be stoned to death [that's not what the text says]. After Seidman allegedly made advances toward him over a period of time, Thomas told authorities that he received a message in his prayers that he must end Seidman’s life.
This morning, the Supreme Court heard oral arguments in Wal-Mart v. Dukes, to determine whether the women employed at Wal-Mart stores across the country can join together in a class action lawsuit to challenge pay and promotion practices that discriminate against women.
If Wal-Mart succeeds in keeping these women from joining together, the already uphill battle for women to fight pay discrimination will get even worse. The Court’s ruling will affect women who face pay discrimination around the country, for generations to come.
By the overwhelming margin of 40-10, this afternoon the GOP-dominated Indiana Senate voted to enshrine a ban on same-sex marriage and civil unions in the state constitution. The Indiana House approved the bill last month. Both chambers must approve the bill again by 2014 before the ban can be put to the voters. Indiana already bans same-sex marriage by statute.

The president of the Transgender American Veterans Association (TAVA), Monica Helms, has released another video regarding transgender veterans — this one about a waited for regulatory policy from the Veterans Administration (VA) and the Obama Administration on the medical treatment of eligible, disabled transgender veterans at VA medical facilities. Many transgender veterans are aware that the proposed regulatory policy — a policy that will functionally create a standard of care for disabled transgender veterans — has been in the pipeline for approval for over a year.
